From Pastor Brady

When Moses asked to see the glory of God, God said, “I will cause all of my goodness to pass before you.” As God passed by Moses, He called out His own name and character to Moses and the nation. As we can see in our Fighter Verse, Yahweh calls himself gracious. His glory is His goodness. And His goodness is His grace.

The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. (Psalm 145:8)

“Gracious” means that God will bend over backwards to help us. It is the kindness of a king towards a peasant. Grace offered to someone who has no claim on grace.

Like leading a nation out of bondage into freedom- that’s our gracious God.
Like striking a rock instead of a complaining people – that’s our gracious God.
Like providing bread in a wilderness- that’s our gracious God.
Like giving a Law to guide and consecrate a people- that’s our gracious God.
Like making a covenant with a people, securing their name and identity- that’s our gracious God.
Like living among them, granting access to your very presence- that’s our gracious God.

You see the Israelites knew the grace of God long before God declared to them that He was a gracious God. They had seen and experienced His grace over and over.

Maybe you read this creed in our Fighter Verse and it doesn’t mean much to you. Or you have heard it so many times that it has lost its impact. So take a few moments today to think through the grace of God in your life. Make a list. How has God shown His grace to you? Where has he bent over backwards for you? When has he given you (the peasant) what only a king can give? What has He done for you that only he can do?

Of course your list should be centered around Christ Jesus. HE is the ultimate revelation of the glory of God, the goodness of God, and the grace of God.

Jesus led us out of bondage- in Him we have freedom.
Jesus, like the rock, was struck for us- by him we have streams of living water (1 Cor. 10:4).
Jesus is our bread of life- in Him we find strength and sustenance.
Jesus is the mediator of a New Covenant- through Him we our united to God.
Jesus is the presence of God in our very hearts- by Him we have access to God and live in His holiness.

God has given us everything we need for life and godliness. That is His grace. That is His goodness. That is His glory.
