From Pastor Mark
As Christians, we worship the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. This same God is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. And yet, our Father is as compassionate as a mother.
That’s what our fighter verse says: The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. (Psalm 145:8)
The word for merciful means “soft like a womb.” It means to have the compassion and empathy that a mother has for her child. When you think of how God treats you, does it ever occur to you that he treats you with the same care that a mother would give her young child?
He protects, provides, and comforts us through all the ups and downs of life. He knows exactly what we need to shape us into the people he wants us to be. And he will never, ever forsake or abandon us.
Even if life has been particularly difficult for you, focus your heart on the mercy of God.
- Has God given you life? That’s mercy.
- Has God given you his Word so you can know him intimately? That’s his mercy.
- Has God given you his Bride, the church, so you don’t have to do life alone? That’s his mercy.
- Has God give you his Son, securing your forgiveness and guaranteeing your future glory? That’s his mercy.
When you are hurting or struggling, you can run to God and know that he holds you in his loving arms. He will never let you go. And nothing can separate you from his love.
Thank God today for being such a merciful and compassionate Father.
